Being What We Want To Do And Be

Without wanting to sound needlessly critical as a being. As I look back over my life…decades. I think I have answered many questions the wrong way.

What we want ‘do‘ is not nearly as important as what we want to ‘be’. The longer I am alive the more significant this ‘being’ becomes.

It’s possible to do lots of things yet be zilch as a ‘being’ because our ‘doing’ is usually connected with a vocation or a career and earning a living.

Being
Being And Doing

‘Being’ is much deeper. It relates to character, who we are and how we make a life.

‘Doing’ is tied in closely with activity, accomplishments and obtaining tangible things. Much like the salary we make, the roles we carry and the recognition we receive for our good behaviors, good choices and because of winnings.

‘Being’ on the other hand has more to do with intangibles, the kind of people we become deep down inside, much of which can’t be measured by objective or even by awards.

Another person’s goals for us or their challenges they have presented to us to achieve on their behalf versus our own goals and achievements.

Whatever You Do

Whatsoever you do…whatever you do….

Let every detail in your lives – words, actions, whatever – be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.

Work from the heart for your real Master, for God,

Make no difference what it is whatever you do but, then He immediately addresses things that have to do with ‘being’. ‘Being’ thankful, being considerate, being obedient, being sincere and being diligent.

Are you giving thought these days to thing that truly count? Goal setting and achieving is important especially when it keeps us motivated. Moving in the right direction is a great way to break the mold of mediocrity.

Do and Be

  • What do I want to do?
  • What do I want to be?

Listen to your heart, your inner spirit. The true treasures will emerge from deep inside you. Don’t tell anybody just concentrate sometime and attention on your own goal. That goal you have set for yourself and watch God work. You will be amazed how He arranges our circumstances so that the very goal you set for yourself and to yourself will begin to take shape within you.

Sometimes it will be painful and other times it will be sheer joy!

Then I took a good look at everything I’d done, looked at all the sweat and hard work. But when I looked, I saw nothing but smoke. Smoke and spitting into the wind. There was nothing to any of it. Nothing.

Then I observed all the work and ambition motivated by envy. What a waste! Smoke. And spitting into the wind.

Be cheerful no matter what;

I Reached My Breaking Point Because Of The Officer’s Child.

I Finally Reached My Breaking Point

Looking Back

It’s my day off and I can’t help but, think about what transpired and why I reached my breaking point because of the officer’s child. I work for someone who causes utter craziness in our department. It’s been a rough year, to say the least! Although, I do know there is a purpose in all this.

The hissing, whispers of the creature are lurking about causing me to reverse my entire mindset. The beast bite releases a paralyzing venom into its victim (me) and it isn’t long before doubt begins to dull my sense of well-being. I have fallen prey to this attack. The beast displays no mercy and laughs at the crippled condition as it prepares for numerous other assaults.

The Beast In The Officer’s Child

Have you tried working for a company where their present employee fights tooth and nail to deter you from taking the position you interviewed for? This particular organization refuses to follow employment laws especially when it comes to an employed officer’s child.

Let me explain all that transpired before, during, and after. I will need time to explain everything in great detail and it won’t be just in this post but many more to follow.

Interview Time

I arrived 15 minutes early for the interview, I waited in the waiting area for an hour. That’s when the HR director came down and apologized for the long delay.

We walked upstairs together and in our discussion to the conference room, we found out we knew one another from another organization we both worked at. He did HR and I received supervisor training from him.

Anyway, I had an interview with a panel of three; two men and an officer’s child.

Despised By The Officer’s Child

As I walked through the doors of the conference room to find the place I was to sit. I watched the officer’s child’s facial expressions change various ways and at various times.

The facial expressions were the first thing I experienced especially when it came to the refusal to accept that the officer’s child’s friend wouldn’t be getting the job.

Delays Upon Delays

I tried not to get caught up in what continued to manifest from the officer’s child’s non-follow-ups and the lack of timely response and multiple non-follow-ups with me.

Then, the constant continued delays and lies started with this officer’s child when it came to my employment references she said she needed to further the process. This officer’s child said my references hadn’t come over, and then the next delay this officer’s child said my references were not responding.

This officer’s child didn’t know who I knew that was part of hiring me for this position. I had bible study with the spouse of the officer who interviewed me for the position. This officer’s child was overruled and continued to fulfill her mission to rid herself of me.

This officer’s child attempted to delay offering the position to me and said she had to get back to me. She even phoned me on various occasions asking if my family would be okay with me taking this position and how it may affect my family and even tried offering me another position that paid less and something I didn’t even apply for.

Position Filled

I finally received the offer letter with a start date, which enabled me to give my current employer of nine years my two-week notice.

Before my start date, I received numerous phone calls asking if I still wanted the position to understand all that it entails, and so forth.

Then, the day I’m to report to work the officer’s child calls me to have me change my work attire to go into the field versus the office then, calls me back again to say things have changed and I will come into the office. Then, due to HR paperwork delays on her end, I had to rush through my new hire paperwork to end my day late with no time for lunch or dinner.

No Place To Work Because Of The Officer’s Child

There was nothing in place for me to work from or with. Not even an office or computer. I was asked to go through a filing cabinet on the other side of the building and organize everything it. Then she proceeded to delegate me to go through her office and pack boxes for a move to another area of the building.

Later on in the week she and her friend pulled me into her office and proceeded to close the door and she proceeded to tell me that someone there had a problem with me and that she would deal with it later. Then, hands me a ball cap. I left feeling uncomfortable, to say the least. How’s that for your first week on the job?

I finally reached my breaking point
I finally reached my breaking point when it came to the officer’s child

Unsettling Patterns

  • Have you ever worked with someone who is all over the place in their thoughts and actions?
  • How did that work out for you?

Having to have my phone on 24 hours a day, seven days a week is beyond rational! Can I even continue working these 15 to 19 hour days?

The Hotel

  • It’s Sunday, and I’m being told I have to drive out of town for work and I must stay in the hotel a fellow employee booked for me.
  • The day before I had gotten home late from work and I was told that I was not needed for the EDS work that was set to start on Sunday.
  • Meanwhile, I was up at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday going about my business to get, an email and being told that my working on Sunday had been the plan all along.
On The Road Again

I had to come home after my plans to pack fast to hit the road. I had a four and half hour drive ahead of me. When I finally at the hotel it was around 11:30 p.m.

It was nearly impossible to fall asleep, my body needed time to shut down from the long drive. I woke up exhausted.

Plus, the turmoil I went through with this officer’s child. This officer’s child threatened to charge me for my hotel room if I did not show up as directed. This officer’s child sent an email to a bunch of people threatening me with insubordination. Meanwhile, I had been working for a month straight. This officer’s child told me I couldn’t take my vacation, the vacation I had planned for a year.

The Mind

My mind would not shut off long enough for me to fall asleep or stay asleep. So, let’s just say I got about three hours of sleep that night.

After I did what I needed to do that next morning (which involved more craziness) due to my boss’s inability to plan. I headed out. On my way home, my arms and hands started to tingle and felt numb so I decided it was important to pull over. I notified my boss, her boss, and HR via email.

As I sat in the car, my emotions started to pour out of me. I asked God why and how can a person like this do this to me. I can’t deal with them any longer! Why am I allowing them to affect my health and well-being, this is unacceptable!

Eventually, I decided I was okay enough to get back on the road and as I was driving and listening to my radio playing Christian music and listening to Christian preaching. I really hoped it would get my mind off all that manifested.

Emotional Effects

As I continued driving I realized I wasn’t getting any better. So, I started looking for shelter. I saw a hotel and took that exit, parked my car, and unpacked my car. As I walked into the entrance of the hotel and up to the front desk of a hotel, I could barely stand. I felt weak and weary and I was short of breath.

Breaking Point Breached

As soon as I got to my room and lay down I emailed my boss, her boss, and, HR. I told them I needed to pull over and get some rest, I needed sleep and I didn’t know what was going on with my arms, hands numbness and tingling.

Shortly, after the email went out my boss’s boss phoned me out of concern for my health and well-being.  I said, I am beyond exhausted and I need to take care of myself. He asked if he could pray for me. I said, most definitely. He asked that I call him letting him know how I am feeling a bit later. That is when another email went out from my boss. Things continued to get worse!

Fear Of The Officer’s Child

Have you ever met this beast? It creeps in like feelings of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of rejection, fear of unemployment, fear of what others are saying about you, fear of having to move away.

Lurking around every imaginable corner threatens to poison our inner peace. Another name is bully which relies on scare tactics and surprise attacks.

Watching for my vulnerable moments when it submerges itself into my self-esteem and turns my mind to mental mush leaving me less and less bright and cherry

Feeling overcast and not knowing what is over the horizon, the fear fog takes hold. Things will be difficult to shake for some time.

Fearless

Light, space, zest – that’s God! So, with him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing. When vandal hordes ride down ready to eat me alive, Those bullies and toughs fall flat on their faces. When besieged, I’m calm as a baby. When all hell breaks loose, I’m collected and cool. I’m asking God for one thing, only one thing: To live with him in his house my whole life long. I’ll contemplate his beauty; I’ll study at his feet. That’s the only quiet, secure place in a noisy world, The perfect getaway, far from the buzz of traffic. God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I’m headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I’m singing God-songs; I’m making music to God. Listen, God, I’m calling at the top of my lungs: “Be good to me! Answer me!” When my heart whispered, “Seek God,” my whole being replied, “I’m seeking him!” Don’t hide from me now! You’ve always been right there for me; don’t turn your back on me now. Don’t throw me out, don’t abandon me; you’ve always kept the door open. My father and mother walked out and left me, but God took me in. Point me down your highway, God; direct me along a well-lighted street; show my enemies whose side you’re on. Don’t throw me to the dogs, those liars who are out to get me, filling the air with their threats. I’m sure now I’ll see God’s goodness in the exuberant earth. Stay with God! Take heart. Don’t quit. I’ll say it again: Stay with God.

God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.

“I, I’m the One comforting you. What are you afraid of – or who? Some man or woman who’ll soon be dead? Some poor wretch destined for dust? You’ve forgotten me, God, who made you, who unfurled the skies, who founded the earth. And here you are, quaking like an aspen before the tantrums of a tyrant who thinks he can kick down the world. But what will come of the tantrums? The victims will be released before you know it. They’re not going to die. They’re not even going to go hungry. For I am God, your very own God, who stirs up the sea and whips up the waves, named God-of-the-Angel-Armies. I teach you how to talk, word by word, and personally watch over you, Even while I’m unfurling the skies, setting earth on solid foundations, and greeting Zion: ‘Welcome, my people!'”

Life Is Full Of Challenges

Life is full of challenges and sometimes we will meet those challenges successfully. Sometimes they can block our way and it may become one of those costly “learning experiences” that adults (our parents) are always talking to us about.

Many challenges start when we are in school. These challenges can be our own, or they can be challenges that are out of our control and make it difficult to want to go to school.

  • Adjusting to a new school
  • Classes we don’t want to take
  • Making friends – We pray for our children that they will pick their friends wisely
  • Peer pressure can be positive or negative
  • Attitudes of others

Adolescence is all about changes, what do those changes look like?

  • Physical,
  • Mental,
  • Emotional,
  • Social,
  • Sexual, and
  • Spiritual

Challenges In The Adolescent Years

Challenges In Life

The adolescent years should be full of joy instead of condemnation.

Because of all these challenges, parents need to be able to support their child(ren) while at the same time allowing them to take on more responsibility.

Our children need guidance but, they must also make their own decisions.  Sometimes those decisions will have consequences because of their behavior.

When a child(ren) starts to distance themselves from the parent. We must learn how to keep the lines of communication open so they can come to you for support and encouragement.

Wrestling With The Past

Understanding what it means to be “wrestling with the past is important. ”Forgetting what is behind, us means we no longer allow the past to affect us in moving forward.

Self-worth

Where are you able to find joy or self-worth in your spiritual life;

  • Family – raise a child(ren) in a family with morals, and
  • Faith – we must accept Christ in our life

Achievements

In what ways are you able to build upon your achievements?

  • volunteering,
  • having success in a ministry,
  • obtain knowledge from the bible, and
  • overcome sin.

Sometimes we look to our past successes as a source of happiness and a way to feel good about ourselves.  Instead of being thankful for how the Lord has helped us and worked through us, we begin to look for joy and self-worth in what we have done or where we have come from.

Offender

Have you forgiven your offender?

…met God out looking for them!” God told them, “I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love!

If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.

He heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds.

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum.

But the fact is, it was our pains he carried – our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures.

But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him – our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed.

The Spirit of God, the Master, is on me because God anointed me. He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners.

God sent me to announce the year of his grace – a celebration of God’s destruction of our enemies – and to comfort all who mourn,

To care for the needs of all who mourn in Zion, give them bouquets of roses instead of ashes, Messages of joy instead of news of doom, a praising heart instead of a languid spirit. Rename them “Oaks of Righteousness” planted by God to display his glory.

I heard a voice thunder from the Throne: “Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making his home with men and women! They’re his people, he’s their God.

He’ll wipe every tear from their eyes. Death is gone for good – tears gone, crying gone, pain gone – all the first order of things gone.”

The Enthroned continued, “Look! I’m making everything new. Write it all down – each word dependable and accurate.”

Challenges

It is impossible to go through life without being hurt in some way by the choices and actions of others.
Sometimes the pain we feel from past events can linger into the present, affecting the way we feel about ourselves, others, and the Lord.

Mistake Challenges

Sometimes it seems like we will never live down the mistakes of our past.  Our sins seem too large or we think we have exhausted God’s forgiveness.  Because of the past, we see ourselves as failures, unworthy of grace.

Covered

Covered throughout my life. God leads, directs, guides, provides, and covers all the bases in our lives. Covers your past, present, and future, He covers your past with forgiveness and healing. God covers your present with grace and God covers your future with promise and provision.

Throughout the Bible, we read about how God continuously covers his children when we follow his will, word, and way. The way God implements covering for us is remarkable.

God deserves all the glory and praise for creating us and covering each area of our lives, no matter how big or how small you perceive your issues to be.  God covers all!

When you face any situation that seems hopeless remember that God covered your bases before you were born.

God has covered you and is taking you through the journey of life that he predestined for you with every tool you need for success.

Don’t worry, Don’t fret, when you feel discouraged remember God has not only covered you with promise and provision but he has also covered you with encouragement and love by and through his word!

Praise the LORD for covering your bases!

Days may appear mundane or difficult in your life but be mindful that God has covered your bases. He’s got it all under control and is working everything out for your good.

Your situation is not a surprise; God comes through in covering you!

I have opened doors and open exists for you, say it The Lord. The season of revival, is upon thee, say it The Lord. Thus, I have established it and quickly you will enter the rem and the dominion!  All is well in my court sayeth The Lord.

Promise of Restoration

While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him a second time: “This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege-ramps and the sword in the fight with the Babylonians: ‘They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness.

Forgiveness

“‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before.

I will cleanse them from all the sins they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise , and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’

Thankfulness

“This is what the Lord says: ‘You say about this place, “It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the Lord, saying, “Give thanks to the Lord Almighty, for the Lord is good; his love endures forever.” For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the Lord. “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In this place, desolate and without people or animals—in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks. In the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev, in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hand of the one who counts them,’ says the Lord.

Righteous

“‘The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah. “‘In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.’ For this is what the Lord says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel, nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.’”

The Word of God

The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: “This is what the Lord says: ‘If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time, then my covenant with David my servant—and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me—can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne. I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’” The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: “Have you not noticed that these people are saying, ‘The Lord has rejected the two kingdoms he chose’? So they despise my people and no longer regard them as a nation.

The Laws

This is what the Lord says: ‘If I have not made my covenant with day and night and established the laws of heaven and earth, then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.’”

Call unto me and I will show you great and mighty things, sayeth The Lord. I have established it from the beginning of time. I have engraved your name on the palm of my hand, can anyone erase it and the answer is my daughter is, No!

Prophetic Blessing Is A Spoken Declaration

I thought of you when I read this quote from “The Power of the Prophetic Blessing: An Astonishing Revelation for a New Generation” by John –

“The Prophetic Blessing is a spoken declaration by a spiritual authority over an individual’s life. The words of the blessing carry the power to control and direct the life of the person over whom they have been spoken. The Prophetic Blessing will revolutionize your life, and the lives of your children and grandchildren, to rise to a higher level of accomplishment, creating spiritual, physical, emotional, and relational prosperity.

Prophetic Word – 3rd follow-up

At my last hair appointment, my friend asked me if I thought about baking ever again. I said no, but I miss the time I spent with the kids. My friend also brought up ways of doing my prior baking by doing it with battered women and children. This conversation is another follow-up to the prophetic word spoken to me.

Shared my limitations

I told her my limitations at the moment, she reminded there are lots of ways to make this happen; pursuing grants, funding, etc.

Pondering

I know my idea had impacted many…

  • because, it was unique
  • because, the parents had no additional costs or messes to clean up
  • because, of the memories that were created
  • because, of the lesson learned
  • because, of the outcome
  • because, of the reward

Lord, direct me where you want me to go and that seems to be via https://bakingbreakthrough.blog

Focus On Love and Good Deeds

Focus on building supportive relationships versus fixing people.

One Another

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day approaching.

So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.

Newborns

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

So clean house! Make a clean sweep of malice and pretense, envy and hurtful talk. You’ve had a taste of God. Now, like infants at the breast, drink deep of God’s pure kindness. Then you’ll grow up mature and whole in God.

The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, so, no more drinking from death-tainted wells!

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed. Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed.

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither whatever they do prospers.

How well God must like you
you don’t walk in the ruts of those blind-as-bats,
you don’t stand with the good-for-nothings,
you don’t take your seat among the know-it-alls.

Instead you thrill to God’s Word,
you chew on Scripture day and night.
You’re a tree replanted in Eden,
    bearing fresh fruit every month,
Never dropping a leaf,
    always in blossom.

Equipped

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

But don’t let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk! There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful in one way or another—showing us the truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, and training us to live God’s way. Through the Word, we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

Instruction Of Our Focus

The Law

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one can resist God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Let me give you some good advice;
I’m looking you in the eye
and giving it to you straight:

Helper Of Our Focus

Jesus said: “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

“If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth. The godless world can’t take him in because it doesn’t have eyes to see him, doesn’t know what to look for. But you know him already because he has been staying with you, and will even be in you!

“I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.

Ask

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.

Are You Coping With Post-Incident Stress Right Now?

Post-Incident Stress

These are normal post-incident stress symptoms and how to cope with them. Some of the stress symptoms that individuals may experience after traumatic incidents are listed below. These symptoms can be physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral. They are best seen as normal reactions to unusual circumstances.

Post-Incident Stress Symptoms

Having symptoms of stress means your mind and body are going through some adjustments or trying to recover normal responses.

  • 80-85% of those individuals exposed to critical incidents will show a noticeable symptom within 24 hours.
  • 50% of those above may be affected after three or more weeks. Symptoms will be more marked in relationship to the severity of the incident. Additionally, some studies indicate that
  • 87% of the individuals who are provided immediate intervention through critical post-incident stress debriefing and peer support will not need long term counseling.

The signs and symptoms may last a few days, weeks or months, based on the severity of the traumatic event. With understanding and support from peers, management and loved ones, the reactions usually pass more quickly. Occasionally, professional assistance from a counselor may be necessary. This does not mean the individual is weak, but indicates this person will need additional support.

  • TENSION: Physical and emotional tension, being excessively hyper, unable to relax or sit still for very long, muscle tremors or twitches.
  • NAUSEA, VOMITING OR OTHER GASTROINTESTINAL UPSET: Especially during or immediately after the incident.
  • BODY TEMPERATURE REGULATION: Profuse sweating or chills at unusual times.
  • SLEEP DISTURBANCES: Either the inability to fall asleep, disruptive dreams or nightmares or waking up earlier than usual.
  • FATIGUE: Always tired. No pep or energy.
  • INTRUSIVE THOUGHT AND MEMORIES: Thinking about the incident or some recurring memory associated with the incident when you don’t want to.
  • NEGATIVE FEELINGS/CRYING: Unpleasant feeling that may come without warning, such a profound sadness, helplessness, fear, anxiety, anger, rage, discouragement, frustration or depression.
  • A FEELING OF VULNERABILITY OR LACK OF CONTROL: Feeling exposed to threat, not in control of one’s life anymore or paranoia.
  • INTERPERSONAL PROBLEMS: increased irritability, insensitivity, blaming others, wanting distance instead of closeness.
  • INTERPERSONAL PROBLEMS WITH ALCOHOL OR DRUGS: “Self-medication” can be a symptom of post-incident stress.
  • COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOR: Increased problems such as compulsive eating or other compulsive behaviors.
  • A VAGUE FEELING OF SELF-BLAME: Usually this fixes on some particular aspect of the incident. A sense of having lost self-value or diminished self-esteem. “I could have done this or should have done that.”

Coping Strategies For Post-Incident Stress

The following are some procedures that may help you successfully cope with stress. Some may work for you while others may not. Use these procedures on a trial basis. Stick with the ones that seem to work best for you.

  • EXPRESSING FEELINGS: Share your thoughts and feelings with someone you trust, even though it may be painful to do so. Make sure the other person understands you’re not asking for a solution to your feelings, just an opportunity to express how you feel.
  • FACING THE PAIN: Painful and fearful thought or memories come back when you don’t want them to. That’s normal, but our first reaction is to keep this from happening. If we allow the thoughts or memories to come back, we can release some of the tension that is making them occur. You can even say to yourself, “Okay that’s enough!” Gradually you will gain more control over these intrusive thoughts and feelings. Once you learn to deal with them, they will eventually subside.
  • DREAMS AND NIGHTMARES: Nightmares are a very common reaction to post-incident stress. These symptoms are necessary to regain emotional balance and they usually disappear after a couple of weeks. Although dreams and nightmares can never be controlled completely, some people have learned to diminish them using various techniques, deliberately thinking about the trauma before they go to sleep and then saying to themselves, “Okay, that’s enough, I’m going to dream about something else.” If you are having trouble sleeping, try reading or watching television. Insomnia will probably resolve in a few days.
  • RECOGNIZING SELF-BLAME AND SURVISOR’S GUILT: It is normal to feel some blame just for surviving a traumatic incident, especially if other people were killed or severely injured. Recognize this for what it is: an irrational thought. It is okay to have survived.
  • CHANGING THE MEMORY: Remember that what is upsetting you after a traumatic incident is not the incident itself, but your memory of it. If it is a memory, you can change what you recall. If some particularly upsetting scene keeps coming back to you, try substituting some other memory of the incident that has less painful emotions associated with it.
  • EXERCISE: Strenuous exercise afterward is very useful, especially if you’re already in good physical shape. However, don’t over do it and cause more harm than good.
  • GETTING BACK TO WORK: Get back to work when it is realistic, but accept the jitters that you might feel with the reminders of the incident. These are normal and will go away with time.
  • DECREASE ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION: Many people feel a “drink” eases tension. However, alcohol is actually not useful to the body in coping with post-incident stress.
  • ACCEPT ENJOYMENT AND DIVERSION: Even if the incident was a serious one. Or consequences occurred due to the actions of others. It is okay to enjoy yourself and forget the incident. There may be a time later that you need to recall what happened. Caring is fine but constant worrying serves no true purpose. Be kind to yourself, go to a movie, get involved in an activity you enjoy, etc.
  • IF NECESSARY, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP: Sometimes post-incident stress is so severe that professional help is necessary for working through it. This is the smart thing to do; it is not a sign of weakness. It takes a lot of courage to work with a professional, to face your own pain and fear. Be proud of yourself and not apologetic.
  • DON’T EXPECT MIRACLE CURES: Working through post-incident stress takes a long time and it is never really finished. Try to accept this and in time you can put things in proper perspective. What has happened is over and you cannot change it. You can learn from what happened and gain inner strength as time passes.
  • THE BOTTOM LINE: The bottom line in dealing with traumatic stress is to face it. If it can be face squarely and dealt with in a constructive way, that is half the battle. THINK POSITIVE.

Misunderstanding The Reason Why This All Happened For The Future

Misunderstanding

After an endless barrage of criticism, misunderstanding, ugly and false rumors, and deep periods of depression you are locked up and locked in this cell of massive confusion. Asking yourself continually, how did I get here? Despised by multitudes coming at you…

  • Bitter hardships
  • Unfair and underserved abuses
  • Loneliness and loss
  • Humiliating failures
  • Debilitating disappointments
hallway with window
Look where misunderstanding can get you

Agony beyond comprehension

Suffered beyond steel

Their remains

Crevices filled

Gunk inundating

Your soul

We treat these intruders as enemies, not friends. Those who are worth following have paid their dues. they have come through the furnace melted, beaten, reshaped, and tempered.

Understand that you don’t deserve the right to lead without first persevering through this pain, heartache and failure.

Future

Quite frankly, I don’t want to be bothered anymore by these disputes. I have far more important things to do – the serious living of this faith. I bear in my body scars from my service to Jesus.

When his master heard his wife’s story, telling him, “These are the things your slave did to me,” he was furious. Joseph’s master took him and threw him into the jail where the king’s prisoners were locked up. But there in jail God was still with Joseph: He reached out in kindness to him; he put him on good terms with the head jailer.

Joseph had two sons born to him before the years of famine came. Asenath, daughter of Potiphera the priest of On, was their mother. Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh (Forget), saying, “God made me forget all my hardships and my parental home.” He named his second son Ephraim (Double Prosperity), saying, “God has prospered me in the land of my sorrow.”

“Come closer to me,” Joseph said to his brothers. They came closer. “I am Joseph your brother whom you sold into Egypt. But don’t feel bad, don’t blame yourselves for selling me. God was behind it. God sent me here ahead of you to save lives. There has been a famine in the land now for two years; the famine will continue for five more years – neither plowing nor harvesting. God sent me on ahead to pave the way and make sure there was a remnant in the land, to save your lives in an amazing act of deliverance. So you see, it wasn’t you who sent me here but God. He set me in place as a father to Pharaoh, put me in charge of his personal affairs, and made me ruler of all Egypt.

Pride first, then the crash, but humility is precursor to honor.

What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven – and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all – life healed and whole. I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory. You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him – with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation.

Thank God for these trials produced in you. Write down painful times from your life which have contributed towards who you are today.

Misunderstanding Our Perspective

Our perspective is the way we view something. Seeing life through perspective lenses has the capacity to see things in their true relations or relative importance.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I’ve fallen in love with…

So much of your life depends on where you are coming from as you face your circumstances.

  • Distinguishes the incidental from the essential.
  • The temporary from the eternal.
  • The partial from the whole.

Try to examine your inner you. Lift yourself above the smothering details of today’s tangled thicket and breath the crisp, fresh air that surrounds the clear view high up.

It’s not very new, nor very profound, but few would debate its truth. Your life is short like yesterday when it passes by with so much uncertainty.

Life Is Challenging When It Comes To Our Misunderstanding

Abundant with challenges, brimming with possibilities, spilling over with opportunities to adapt, shift, alter and change. This is a path that leads to optimism and motivation.

“And you, Solomon my son, get to know well your father’s God; serve him with a whole heart and eager mind, for God examines every heart and sees through every motive. If you seek him, he’ll make sure you find him, but if you abandon him, he’ll leave you for good. Look sharp now! God has chosen you to build his holy house. Be brave, determined! And do it!” Then David presented his son Solomon with the plans for The Temple complex: porch, storerooms, meeting rooms, and the place for atoning sacrifice. He turned over the plans for everything that God’s Spirit had brought to his mind: the design of the courtyards, the arrangements of rooms, and the closets for storing all the holy things. He gave him his plan for organizing the Levites and priests in their work of leading and ordering worship in the house of God, and for caring for the liturgical furnishings. He provided exact specifications for how much gold and silver was needed for each article used in the services of worship: the gold and silver Lampstands and lamps, the gold tables for consecrated bread, the silver tables, the gold forks, the bowls and the jars, and the incense altar. And he gave him the plan for sculpting the cherubs with their wings outstretched over the Chest of the Covenant of God – the cherubim throne. “Here are the blueprints for the whole project as God gave me to understand it,” David said. David continued to address Solomon: “Take charge! Take heart! Don’t be anxious or get discouraged. God, my God, is with you in this; he won’t walk off and leave you in the lurch. He’s at your side until every last detail is completed for conducting the worship of God.

He continued this subject with his disciples. “Don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or if the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your inner life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the ravens, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, carefree in the care of God. And you count far more. “Has anyone by fussing before the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? If fussing can’t even do that, why fuss at all? Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don’t fuss with their appearance – but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? “What I’m trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don’t be afraid of missing out. You’re my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself. “Be generous. Give to the poor. Get yourselves a bank that can’t go bankrupt, a bank in heaven far from bankrobbers, safe from embezzlers, a bank you can bank on. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.

Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity.
